If you’re a weed enthusiast, you might already have an opinion on Tommy Chong. Hell, you probably love the guy, we sure do. He’s as close as conceivably possible to being canonized the official patron saint of stoners. But even if you’re not a weed aficionado, you know him as one-half of the iconic ‘70s & ‘80s stoner comedy duo, Cheech & Chong.
And like many other popular public figures who indulge in the herb, he’s come out with his own line of cannabis products. We gotta say, watching this industry explode with innovation and competition is thrilling, and Tommy’s line of products is a potent addition to the mix.
In this detailed Cheech & Chong's review, we’ll examine the who, what’s, when’s, where’s, and why’s of Chong’s products so that you can decide for yourself whether they’re up your alley, or if you should pass on that green.
Why Did Cheech & Chong Start a Cannabis Line?
Cheech & Chong are a comedy duo founded in Vancouver and consisting of American Cheech Marin and Canadian Tommy Chong. The duo found commercial and cultural success in the 1970s and 1980s with their stand-up routines, studio recordings, and feature films, which were based on the hippie and free love era, and especially drug and counterculture movements, most notably their love for cannabis.
Not only did Tommy Chong inevitably become a pro-cannabis activist due to his pioneering roles in the stoner comedy genre, but also because he has survived two bouts of cancer (prostate and bowel), which cannabis has personally helped him overcome when combined with traditional treatments.
Chong’s come a long way, and in our eyes, has done a lot of good for the industry. But his claim to fame hasn’t been without its hiccups.
In 2003, a government sting that focused on drug paraphernalia targeted a glass pipe and bong company owned by Paris, which ultimately sent his father Tommy to jail for nine months (possibly to make an example out of him since he’s highly visible in the cannabis world), included a fine of $20,000 and the forfeiture of almost $120,000 in assets, not to mention the loss of the domain name, tommychong.com.
Of course today the laws surrounding marijuana and its paraphernalia are far more lax and are growing more so every year, meaning that Chong’s is unlikely to face the same criminal persecution its namesake did more than ten years ago.
Cheech and Chong then started in 2020. And here we are today….

As I've mentioned before in a similar CBD + THC supplement review, there are only a few supplements I can legitimately recommend that help you unwind and relax – Cheech & Chong's Cruise Chews are one of them.
On one hand, it's crazy to think brands have come up with formulas like this that make it totally legal (depending on where you live), but on the other hand… it's about time!
While they may seem a little gimmicky, Cheech & Chong’s Cruise Chews offer the potential to experience a relaxing chill by way of 50 mg of CBD and 3 mg of THC. The label explains that you can take ½ to 1 full gummy in order to achieve deep relaxation. You’re supposed to wait two hours before you take any additional gummies.
Compared to some of the other CBD and THC products being sold these days, this is a relatively low-dose product that can provide you with subtle results. The goal is to help you relax and unwind without making you feel exhausted, intoxicated or groggy in the morning. No synthetic chemicals are used in the formulation of this product.
The Tommy Chong CBD brand claims that they use the best hemp plants in America to create their product line. Using gentle methods of extraction, the brand explains that you can use this product to support optimal health throughout the day and night. You can take this product in the evening hours or right before bed to get into a deep sleep.
This is a federally legal product, though the Tommy Chong CBD brand cannot legally ship their products to Colorado, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska or Hawaii. If you live in any of these states, then you’re out of luck. There is less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC in each dose.
Every chew contains less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC by dry weight. 3MG of THC in a 1 gram chew means safe and legal relaxation.
What I like
- It’s a mild dose of CBD and THC. You should simply feel relaxed without feeling overcome by any kind of psychoactive effect.
- Cruise Chews have a very good rating on the company’s website (a 4.9-star rating out of five stars).
- They are discreetly shipped right to your door.
- Gentle and safe extraction methods are used to minimize potential contamination with harmful substances.
What I don’t like
- There’s definitely a lack of information on the brand’s website. It’s nearly impossible to figure out how many gummies are actually included in one container of Cheech & Chong’s Cruise Chews (there are 30 if you’re wondering).
- It’s an expensive product, priced at $69.95 for one container of Cheech & Chong’s Cruise Chews. At the time of writing this review, the price was marked down to $59.
- This product does contain THC, so you should avoid it if you’re concerned that you will be drug tested by your employer.
If you’re interested in trying CBD with THC for the first time, this is a product that you may want to strongly consider. It’s one of the lower-dose products on the market, using high-quality delta-9 THC. Delta-9 THC has been largely studied for its therapeutic and calming effects.

For everyone else, this cannabis drink still has plenty to offer, with four very distinct flavors that all taste delicious, a variety pack option that includes one of each, and a potency fitting for both new and experienced THC users.
The significant (but not overpowering) dosage of THC per can does a good job of relaxing you so you can feel comfortable in otherwise uncomfortable social situations or just unwind at the end of a long day.
What we love
Cheech & Chong’s cannabis drinks are a little different, both in terms of strength and flavor. They’re available in four different flavors, so there’s something for every preference.
These cannabis drinks may also give you a significant buzz and really mellow you out, while still allowing a relatively casual experience and the option of drinking multiple cans without being overwhelmed.

Smokers looking for extremely high potencies won’t find them in Chong’s Choice, but this means that lower strengths will welcome to a wider range of Cheech & Chong fans or any curious customers.

Unless you happen to enjoy an overpowering dank, cannabis-heavy flavor, these products are pleasant to consume.

While the company remains committed to affordability, their products are still in the upper price range, which may or may not be justified depending on the customer.
Overall
It seems Tommy Chong is of two minds with his products: appeal to seasoned smokers with high quality offerings, and welcome new smokers with simple and unfussy products.
Thankfully, no major sacrifices were made on either end, and the final result is ultimately a line of competent and uncomplicated products. As it very well should be, Tommy’s face will now grace the shelves of dispensaries throughout the country as a marker of quality cannabis.
